Table Talk
Marketing is exhausting. Let's talk about it.
TL;DR
Join me twice a month for Table Talk to be inspired, get ideas, study the data, and get detailed breakdowns of how different small businesses are finding success through community driven marketing practices.
Another platform, another place to figure out how to show up on the internet for you.
How Did We Get Here?
As someone who has been creating content online since the early days of MySpace, figuring out who I want to be for you on a new platform is always such an interesting exercise. Some would say “keep building your brand as you always have” that way you can easily repurpose and maximize your digital footprint, but that feels so watered down and a real disservice not only to the platform that I am creating on, but to my brand that is very much about how to use different marketing tools and platforms to grow your business.
Facebook is very much a diary of my life. Where I have shared my life one update and picture at a time. You can see my terrible spelling and fat fingering, the vapid and self-centered posts of my younger years, overly filtered photos, bazillions of hashtags from auto posting from instagram, and just the story of my life since 2006.
Instagram is just photo after photo of me trying to get attention, showing up “how I am supposed to” and trying to be an “influencer”. (Fun fact - Not great at that.) LinkedIn is where I get to be professional and grown-up, connecting with my peers, being thoughtful and insightful, but have very much built a very creator economy focused network that honestly, doesn’t serve me anymore (which reminds me, I really should cancel my LinkedIn Premium account.)
And then there is YouTube. The place site that has done more for me than of the others. With over 1000 videos and podcasts created, YouTube has given my face and voice a place to shine, connect, and grow. I was able to really build a strong online brand that focused on solving your social media and online marketing problems. This platform led me to stages around the world, brought my multiple 5-figure partnership deals, and affiliate sales that still bring in monthly revenue. But it has been idle for over a year, just sitting there waiting for me to figure out what to do next.
I outgrew who YouTube algorithm wanted me to be but how can I just walk away from all those views and subs?
Which leads me to Substack, the very platform you are reading this from. I have had my eye on it for a while and have been trying to figure out what role Substack would play in my online journey. I have many fav creators I enjoy consuming here and I love the nostalgia of the blog vibe that is so early 2000s it makes me long for my pink iPod mini and DVD binge sessions of my favorite shows.
What Am I Doing Here?
With the launch of my new book, Stop Marketing Start Belonging, I needed a new place to expand the ideas and principals I painstakingly researched, interviewed, and wrote out in the 190 pages. A book is really just a starting place, but there are always so many other lessons and examples to share.
So what better place to build off of what my real-world focused marketing book then the newest and trendiest place for those who still like to read and write.
Here is my commitment to you with Table Talk:
Bi-monthly writings sharing cool small businesses that I have come across that are doing something smart in marketing that you can learn from.
I will not only share what they are doing, but what you can learn from them.
I will include both the traditional marketing practices and the digital nurturing bridge (since that is the core tenet of Stop Marketing, Start Belonging)
While there will probably be different featured tools or links to things that I think will make your marketing life easier, remember that while this is free to you, these are the little ways I can add revenue to my business that allows for me to keep connecting and sharing with you.
Lastly, I won’t waste your time or bore you with AI-slop. I will do my best to write these all myself, with minimal help from AI (usually it will be for proofing because #artmajor).
What Can You Do?
Read what I write.
Comment about what you think.
Share with people you like.
Learn from and bring these ideas to your work.
I want to make your marketing life better, easier, and obtainable. Marketing is a shit show of options with too many things to navigate through taking away from the ACTUAL work you want to do actually pays for your life. But this necessary task shouldn’t be all consuming or frustrating. There are simple systems, minimal tools, and people just like you who are succeeding in simple normal ways.
That is what Table Talk is all about.
We come together at the virtual table to spill the tea about real marketing problems, victories, and lessons from the ordinary small business that make up the amazing small communities all around that we get to be a part of.
And maybe, just maybe, you can finally stop marketing and have the real-world marketing experience that builds loyal customers anywhere and start belonging.
